Colin Jodah, American College Cricket Special Advisor, in charge of drafting the Championship Schedule explained, "There were so many variables to factor in when scheduling the 44 playoff games, amongst 21 teams .We also did not want any team to play back to back games on any one day. The logistics of playing on up to 5 fields on one day added to the complexity. Then, though we wanted to highlight traditional rivalries like between the Trojans and the Buckeyes the northern clubs were coming out of winter, whereas the southern clubs have the weather to play and practice"

The University of The West Indies, playing as Special Guests have been placed in the Southern Conference and matches between them and their Conference opponents will count towards determining which US College makes it to the Semi Finals. As some UWI players were even selected recently to play Test cricket the University's presence is electrifying.

Matches played by the USA U 19 World Cup Team will not affect the points standings, however the Colleges will be eager to prove their mettle against the USA players, who are themselves mainly College freshmen. The USA Team will feature in 2 marque matches under lights at the Central Broward Regional Park Cricket Stadium, the first on Friday night,March 19 against 2009 American College Cricket Champions Montgomery College. Then the 2nd on Saturday night, March 20 against the University of the West Indies.

AMERICAN COLLEGE CRICKET PRESS RELEASE

Fort  Lauderdale, Fl. February 14, 2010

Chanderpaul now Head Coach of American College Cricket
The 2008 ICC and Wisden Cricketer of the Year Shiv Chanderpaul will be Head Coach of American College Cricket, announced Lloyd Jodah, President of ACC, today. The current West Indies Test player Shivnarine Chanderpaul endowed the Chanderpaul Trophy for the Winning Team in the American College Cricket Spring Break Championship and has endorsed the Championship practically from the beginning. Never before has any active Test Cricket star been so involved in the game in the USA.
Chanderpaul has been the premiere batsman for the West Indies for years. A team player, nevertheless Shiv has achieved many personal accomplishments such as : (1) scoring the 3 rd Fasted Test Century in history (in 72 balls vs Australia) ; (2) being the only batsman to bat 1,000 consecutive balls in Tests without getting out and (3) being 2nd only to Brian Lara in Test runs scored for the West Indies.
Chanderpaul said, " It's been gratifying to see the response of cricketers across the USA to the thought of playing in the American College Cricket Spring Break Championship. Some talent has already emerged, such as Adil Bhatti and Ankit Sehgal - it's exciting to wonder how many more players will take advantage of the opportunities the Championship presents." adding "Right now I'm happily playing cricket all over the world but when my schedule permits, I'd like to do some coaching of college cricketers in the USA. The resources of the USA can bring so much to the game. Doing my bit to assist cricket in the USA is helping cricket everywhere."
Shiv Chanderpaul's manager Chris Thakoorpersad added "Whilst Shiv's Team commitments are priorities, we're making every effort to have Shiv present the Chanderpaul Trophy to the National Champions on March 21st in Florida".
Chanderpaul has also been working with the Guyana Minister of Sports Frank Anthony to develop the game in schools in Guyana, where his teenage son Brandon lives and plays.
Chanderpaul is currently recuperating from a hand injury which forced him to miss the Australia vs West Indies ODI Series, currently in progress.

U. Penn Win Against Princeton And George Washington
By Lloyd Jodah
Oct 14, 2009
It was a beautiful day in Phildelphia, about 75 degrees with brilliant sunshine, perfect for cricket. But Ankit Sheth,Alexander "Ali" Sternberg and Curt Sonnet were anxious. As co-founders of the George Washington University (GWU) Cricket Club they wondered how their nascent Team would do in ,their first hardball game. Their opponent was the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN),which has had a cricket Team since 1842. The week before UPENN had won against Princeton University.
The Finnegan Park field was large and thick with grass, boundaries were going to be rarer than a Detroit Lions touchdown. UPenn's Captain Hassan Ali Raza won the toss and decided to bat, only to find the ball keeping low.Opening the bowling for GWU was Shaan Mehta, who played at the Under 19 level for the NY Region .Mehta's pace and accuracy surprised the Upenn team, uprooting Teja's stump with his second delivery.A bail flew so far a search ensued to recover it, whereupon the GWU 12th man declared that " This was the first time the Team had played with bails" ! GWU Captain Aamir Hassan sent back 2 batsmen to make UPenn 15 for 3
The GWU players were ecstatic whilst Upenn couldn't believe what was happening. However when Mehta came out of the attack number 3 batsman Roshan (18),Jay (23) and Ali (11) rallied UPenn. Scoring was difficult on the pitch and the outfield grass was more stifling than the NY Giants defense - lofted balls stopped where they landed. Only 2 boundaries were scored in UPenn's 98..Shaan Mehta took 3 for 10,Amir Hassan 2 for 7.
Curt Sonnet played football and baseball in High School and came to college "looking for something new". He was introduced to cricket 2 1/2 years ago and epitomizes the curious athletes that cricket can attract in colleges. The confident catch Curt took at longon showed how far he had come.
Ali Sternberg was born in NY ,and picked up his cricket when he spent 2 years in Australia. Together with Ankit Sheth, inspired by the 2009 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship, they started the Club and Ankit reached out to local Media. They succeeded in getting the Washington Post to do a story on the GWU Cricket Club.
GWU's opening batsmen stroked the ball well before Captain Hassan went to a questionable run out decision.Mehta played some good shots and looked set to take GWU to victory.Victor Williams briefly looked good whilst Abhisek Pansari hit the lone 6 before but UPenn led by Ali Raza bowled and fielded well and corralled GWU for 74.
GWU had lost the game but they felt good about their performance.Asked what was the next step Sheth said "We have to get equipment "  The Team had used equipment graciously lent by UPenn. Coming up was a "taped ball" match against American University and possibly a hardball game against Carnegie Mellon U. "We're getting ready for the 2010 American College Cricket Spring Break Championship " Shaan Mehta said.
As for the UPenn Cricket Club they were taking on all comers and next wanted to challenge the 2009 College Champions Montgomery .
