The Lenny and Carl Show
Calling the Action at the USACA U-19 Tournament
Commentary by Sham Samaroo
May 25, 2009
Ahh...the wonder of youth. Those who mistakenly believe that youth is wasted on the young should attend this year's USACA under 19 cricket tournament playing this Memorial weekend here in New York. I caught the action at the Gateway Oval between New York and New Jersey on Saturday. The technique, temperament, and level of maturity displayed by our youngsters is testimony that youth cricket in America is, unmistakeably, on the rise. I was also pleasantly surprised by the exciting commentary on the game courtesy of Lenny Achaibar and Carl Bennet. With their knowledge and experience, Lenny and Carl's commentary brings another level of professionalism to the game. Watching the action unfold, attending ears wait impatiently for their insightful and thought-provoking comments that give deeper meaning to the play. Evidently their comments have served, too, to inspire and motivate the youths to even greater heights. Watching as Lenny called the action with New York's Bridgepaul in the attack, one can almost sense an added urgency and effort in Bridgepaul's steps...or take for instance when Carl described that flowing cover drive from the blade of New Jersey's Wardley ...ahh the joy as the senses of sight and ear intermingle to thrill one's soul with cricket, lovely cricket.
